Indian athletes thank PM Modi for motivating them ahead of Tokyo Olympics!

New Delhi, July 14: With few days left for Tokyo Olympics, PM Narendra Modi interacted with the Indian athletes’ contingent bound for Tokyo Olympics virtually. The interaction boosted the morale of the athletes ahead of their participation at the Games.

World champion badminton player PV Sindhu was quoted by ANI as saying: “It was an honour & absolute pleasure speaking to PM Modi with the rest of the Indian contingent. I’d like to thank him & entire nation for continuous support & we hope to make you proud at Olympics”.
 
 
While boxing champion Ashish Kumar Chaudhary called a "proud moment", Manpreet Singh, the Indian Hockey team’s captainshared how "fantastic" his experience was to interact with PM Narendra Modi ahead of Tokyo Olympics. One of top shooters Elavenil Valarivan also said that it was an honor to interact with the PM. It was really encouraging and motivating. "I thank him for an interaction with the athletes and I'm privileged to be a part of it. I wish all the athletes good luck for the games".
 
 
PM Modi interacted with several athletes including boxer Mary Kom, Manpreet Singh, tennis player Sania Mirza, shooter Saurabh Chaudhary, paddler Manika Batra and many others.
 
 
While addressing the Indian athletes, the Prime Minister regretted the fact that he could not host the athletes due to the pandemic. He remarked that the pandemic has changed their practice and even the year of the Olympics. He recalled his Mann ki Baat address when he exhorted the citizens to cheer for their sportspersons in the Olympics. He noted the popularity of the #Cheer4India. He said that the whole country is behind them and the blessings of all the countrymen are with them.

PM Modi informed that people can login to the NaMo app and cheer for their sportspersons where special provisions have been made for the purpose. "These wishes of 135 crore Indians are the blessings of the country for all of you before entering the field of sports," said the Prime Minister. The newly inducted Sports Minister Anurag Thakur and Nisith Pramanik, MoS Youth Affairs and Sports and Union Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present on the occasion.
 
 
Further, he said that seeing the confidence and energy of young India, he is optimistic that the day is not far when only victory will become New India’s habit. He advised players to give their best and asked the countrymen to “Cheer4India”
