One gold, two silvers and a bronze for India at Tokyo Paralympics in just an hour! Let that sink in

Tokyo, Aug 30: There were no Monday blues for India today as it was raining medals after four Indian athletes won medals in a span of two hours at the Tokyo Paralympics totalling the country’s tally to seven medals.

First, it was Avani Lekhara who created history by becoming the first Indian woman to win gold at Paralympic Games. Secondly, in men’s discus throw, Yogesh Kathuniya won silver. Later, it was javelin throwers Devendra Jhajharia grabbing silver and Sundar Singh Gurjar winning bronze.
 
 
Speaking of Avani Lekhara, the 19-year-old Avani Lekhara became first Indian woman to win gold at Olympics or Paralympic Games . She acheived this feat by winning the gold medal in the women's R2 - 10m Air Rifle standing SH1 event. She became the first woman from India to win a Paralympics gold medal. Avani finished with a Paralympic Record and in-process equalled the World Record with 249.6 points.
 
Meanwhile, discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya clinched silver after registering his season-best attempt of 44.38 in the men's F56 final. All of Yogesh valid throws were his season-best as he went a step ahead with each of his attempts in the finals of the discus throw event. Devendra Jhajharia grabbed silver with a personal best throw of 64.35. This was also his third medal at Paralympic Games. Meanwhile, Sundar captured bronze with a season-best throw of 62.58.
 
 
Congratulatory messages started to pour in for the Indian athletes especially PM Narendra Modi. In a tweets for all the medallists today, PM Modi, for Lekhara, said, "Phenomenal performance Avani Lekhara! Congratulations on winning a hard-earned and well-deserved Gold, made possible due to your industrious nature and passion towards shooting. This is truly a special moment for Indian sports. Best wishes for your future endeavours."
 
 
For Yogesh, PM Modi tweeted, "Outstanding performance by Yogesh Kathuniya. Delighted that he brings home the Silver medal. His exemplary success will motivate budding athletes. Congrats to him. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours."
 
"Superb performance by Devendra Jhajharia! One of our most experienced athletes wins a Silver medal. Devendra has been making India continuously proud. Congratulations to him. Best of luck for his future endeavours," PM Modi said in other tweet. Further congratulating Sundar, he said, "India is overjoyed by the Bronze medal won by Sundar Gurjar. He has shown remarkable courage and dedication. Congratulations to him. Wishing him the very best."
 
With these victories, this has helped India surpass their best ever Paralympics medal tally with a week still to go in the Tokyo Paralympics. India has already won seven medals in this edition of the Paralympics, including a gold in just the first six days. This is by far India's best-ever performance in the Paralympics - an event they have been competing in since 1968!
