It was yet another night where one of the biggest upsets could be witnessed in this FIFA World Cup edition. This come as Hwang Hee-Chan's goal in stoppage time helped South Korea stun Portugal 2-1 last night.
However, the drama did not end with the win because Korea's fate was hanging on the result of the other Group H match between Ghana and Uruguay. After the win, there 8 minutes to go with Uruguay leading against Ghana 2-0 but the former could not cross the line and both teams were knocked out of the World Cup. With this win, the Koreans made it to the pre-quarters.
Portugal finished with six points from three games, followed by Korea with four points. Uruguay too ended the group stage with four points and have a similar goal difference of zero as Korea but the Asian side scored four goals in comparison to the South American's two. Ghana finished at the bottom with three points.
After South Korea beat Portugal and Japan stunned Spain, the number of countries from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) in the round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup rose to three, in Qatar. Australia became the first AFC nation to make the cut after successive wins over Tunisia and Denmark, after a drubbing to France in its opening World Cup match.
South Korea will face Group G winners Brazil. On the other hand, Portugal will take on Switzerland.
