Double Standards of BCCI!

On one side, you say if want a "new face" and drop an experienced player due to age, on the other side you are making a 34-year-old a Test captain.

Several shocking developments started to surface in the cricket circle in the last few days. Two of them were - Rohit Sharma, who is also ODI and T20I captain, being named as Test captain, and the other Wriddhiman Saha being dropped from the Test squad.
Now, let us first speak about Wriddhiman Saha. He was clearly said he will not part of the Test team from now as BCCI is looking for "new faces". When Saha asked the chairman of selectors, Chetan Sharma if dropping him from the Sri Lanka series was just this series or for the upcoming series against Australia and England too. Then he paused for a couple of seconds and said, "From now on, you will not be considered."

Saha had also asked why is this so? Is it because of his performance and fitness or is it because of his age? He said fitness and performance were not an issue. "We want to look at new faces and if we bring in a new face, we can't drop him without playing him." That's why he said, "from now on".

Of course, no problem with looking at new faces! Why there would be an issue with it! Right.

Now, cut to Rohit Sharma being named as Test captain. Here, too, there is no issue of Sharma being the new Test captain of the Indian team. However, when BCCI says that it is looking for new faces, why not in the case of Test captain. The selectors could have gone for KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant who have been on Test squad for such a long time. They might train under the stars of the current team especially when most of the series in this year is going to be on home soil.

Since the last few Tests, the 34-year-old as a batsman has been playing exceptionally well in the red-ball format. Now, him also being the captain of all formats, could hamper his performance as a batsman.

Aren't these double standards? On one side, you say if want a "new face" and drop an experienced player due to age, on the other side you are making a 34-year-old a Test captain. Slow claps for BCCI!
