In what could possibly be the biggest transfer in the league's history, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya is likely to return to his former franchise Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

Reports suggest that the 30-year-old all rounder will transfer to the five-time champions in an all-cash deal. Mumbai Indians will pay Rs 15 crore to Gujarat Titans as Pandya's salary and an additional undisclosed transfer fee as well, upto 50 per cent of which can come to the all rounder.

Every franchise will get an extra Rs 5 crore in their purse for the upcoming auction, scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 19. This means that Mumbai Indians only need to release one or more players to complete Pandya's signing from the Titans.

The all rounder captained the Titans to victory in their first season in 2022 and a year later, led them to the finals where they lost to the Chennai Super Kings in a last-ball thriller at Ahmedabad. Before joining the Titans, Pandya played seven seasons for Mumbai Indians and won the title in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020.

When the Titans franchise came into existence in 2021, the owners-CVC Capital Partners-were permitted to choose three players of their choice and went for Pandya (Rs 15 crore), Rashid Khan (Rs 15 crore) and Shubman Gill (Rs 7 crore).

Neither the Mumbai Indians nor the Gujarat Titans have commented publicly on the trade yet. The retention deadline ends on November 26 at 4 pm.
