In a shocking development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday lost its golden tick verification on social media platform account ‘X’, formerly known as Twitter. Notably this development came after the Indian cricket board changed its profile picture to the Indian tricolour in support of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign for the upcoming Independence Day.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a campaign ahead of India's 77th Independence Day, inviting residents to display the Indian flag on their social media profiles.
"In the spirit of the #HarGharTiranga movement, let us change the DP of our social media accounts and extend support to this unique effort which will deepen the bond between our beloved country and us," he posted.
To show the support, the BCCI graciously acceded to the request by changing its profile image to the tricolour. However, this decision led to the loss of the coveted golden verification tick.
As per the revised guidelines of X, formerly known as Twitter, if a verified profile changes their display picture then its blue or golden tick is automatically revoked, as the management will verify the profile. Once they complete the verification their tick will be restored. It is worth mentioning that if BCCI revert back to their old profile picture, it will lose their blue tick once again.
The golden verification tick serves as a crucial mark of authenticity, signifying that an account genuinely represents the claimed organisation.
