India squad for Asia Cup 2023: BCCI announced the much-awaited squad for the upcoming tournament that might be the same for the World Cup as well.

The 17-member India squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 was announced by BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar along with captain Rohit Sharma.
 
Wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul and middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer made their comeback in the ‘Men in Blue’ squad after returning from injury. Meanwhile, India’s prime pacer, Jasprit Bumrah, has also named in the squad.

Apart from this, Tilak Varma has earned a maiden ODI call-up while Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul return as India announced a 17-man squad for the 2023 Asia Cup.
 
Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, meanwhile, has been excluded while Kuldeep Yadav has found a place. Meanwhile, Sanju Samson has been named as standby player.
 
Here is the full squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Mohammed Shami, Ishan Kishan, Shardul Thakur, Axar Patel, Suryakumar Yadav, Prasidh Krishna.
 
Ajit Agarkar said that while this is not officially a preliminary squad, the team for the World Cup will be selected from among these players. It means that this might as well be the de facto preliminary squad for the World Cup.
 
 

Asia Cup details

 
The Asia Cup will begin on August 30 in Multan with a match between Pakistan and Nepal. India will play all their matches in Sri Lanka, starting with arch-rivals Pakistan in Kandy on September 2.
 
India, Pakistan and Nepal are in Group A, while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Afghanistan form the more competitive Group B. The two teams who will top their group advance to the Super 4 stage.
 
A total of 13 matches will be played in the tournament, four of which will be hosted by Pakistan and nine by Sri Lanka. The final is slated to take place on 17 September in Colombo.
