Sanju Samson dismissal, Out or Not Out? Another umpiring decision creates controversy in IPL 2024

Umpiring controversies aren't new to cricket. But this IPL, we have seen many of controversies erupting due to umpire decisions. Similarly, major drama unfolded during the Delhi Capitals vs Rajasthan Royals IPL match on Tuesday after Sanju Samson was dismissed under dramatic circumstances that left the RR captain fuming.
It gained more traction as the decision from the third umpire came at a crucial point, which eventually cost the Royals the match.

What happened?

The incident took place in the 16th over of the Royals chase when Samson made the RR fans believe that it will win the match. However, when he smashed a Mukesh Kumar delivery to long-on, DC's Shai Hope claimed the catch at the fence. Believing that it was out, Samson started to walk off while the on-field umpires referred it upstairs to check Hope's claim of the catch.

The replays then indicated that Hope's foot seemingly touched the boundary cushion. However, the third umpire declared the catch clean and went on to give Samson out.


Seeing replays on the big screen, a puzzled and angered Samson protested the decision and had a chat with the on-field umpire before eventually walking off the field in disappointment.
