As per the new guideline issued by the DGCA, shooters can take more than one licensed firearm and more than 50 rounds of cartridges while travelling to participate in a competition or training.

It should be noted that shooters could carry more than one rifle and more than 50 rounds of cartridges only for competitions and not for trainings. This, too, was allowed only afterobtaining permission from the DGCA in advance.

"I welcome this extremely supportive and positive move by the Civil Aviation Ministry. The Indian shooters are doing very well and in an Olympic year this ease of travel with their weapons will help them to focus on their training and competitions better," Rijiju tweeted.

Further, he added, "We will provide full support to our sportspersons. Shooters require their guns and ammunition all the time for training and competition. To be a fine marksman one has to be in complete peace and full control of oneself without stress and tension."
