Chasing a target of 336 runs, England cautiously started to build a crucial partnership when Jason Roy and Bairstow came onto the crease. Roy finally registered his half century, however, was sent back by a run-out. Following this was all spectacular show displayed by Bairstow and Stokes who went against the spinners especially Kuldeep Yadav.

Both of them went on a six-hitting spree as England cleared the rope 20 times in the run chase. Though Stokes missed his century, Bairstow made sure he got to the three-figure mark this time around with a six off Kuldeep Yadav. Even though Bairstow and stand-in skipper Jos Buttler were sent back to the pavilion, England ensured they didn't collapse as they did in the first ODI with Malan and Livingstone helping their side past the finishing line.

Earlier, in the day, India had lost both the openers within the first 9 overs. This led Kohli and KL Rahul to play alertly to ensure that a partnership is built in order to put a big total for the visitors. Both the batsmen did not take any risks and played steadily. Though Kohli was departed, Pant coming in was more of a disadvantage for England.
