First Indian woman on Annapurna! Priyanka Mohite inks history after scaling world's tenth highest peak

New Delhi, April 21: Achieving the greater heights, Indian girl raised in the Maharashtrian soil craved her name in the golden word in history. Maharashtrian "मुलगी" Priyanka Mohite on 16 April scaled the world's 10th highest peak known as Mount Annapurna and becomes the first Indian women to do so.

Founder and chairperson of Biocon, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw shared Priyanka's achievement on social media. Showering accolades on the young mountaineer, Mazumdar-Shaw revealed that the historic summit was completed on April 16 at 1:30 pm.
 
 
 
She tweeted “Our colleague Priyanka Mohite scaled the peak of Mt. Annapurna, (8091 meters) 10th highest mountain in the world, on 16th April 2021 at 1.30 pm.- first Indian woman to do so! We at ⁦@SyngeneIntl are so very proud of her.”
 
 
 
Mohite was part of an expedition organized by Pioneer Adventure Treks. Her team consists of 7 people including her. The six climbers were also from Maharashtra. The name of the climber is, Parth Upadhyay, Kakka, Bhushan Harshe, Sumit Mandale, Jitendra Gaware, and Bhagwan Chavale.'

According to her FB post, the team started their Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Expedition 2021 on 26 march. They reached their camp 2 destinations on 9 April. Meanwhile, her team started the final summit push on 14th April 2021. On 16 April Mohite scaled the mountain at 1:30 pm becoming the first Indian female to stand atop the mountain summit.

Mt. Annapurna-1 is located in Nepal Himalaya’s Annapurna massif. The highest peak of the massif, Annapurna I Main, is the tenth highest mountain in the world at 8,091 meters (26,545 ft) above sea level. Annapurna Massif is 55 kilometers long, surrounded by Gandki and Marshyangadi glaciers. Mt. Annapurna is one of the deadliest mountains in the world. The mortality rate is significantly high due to unfavorable weather conditions and frequent avalanches.

Priyanka also holds the record for being the first woman in India to scale Mt Makalu, the fifth highest mountain in the world. She is also the youngest Indian woman who climbed Mt.Lhotse in 2018. Apart from that, she holds the title of being the third youngest Indian to climb Mt. Everest. Priyanka had climbed Mt Everest in 2013 at the age of 21.
 
 
 
 
 
Earlier in 2018 Maharashtra Government has awarded her with Shiv Chhatrapati state award for adventure sports for 2017-2018.
 
 
She works with Syngene International Limited, Biocon's research organization offering pharma and biotechnology majors customized solutions in synthetic chemistry and molecular biology for early-stage drug discovery and development.
