Copenhagen, April 18: Continuing his winning streak, Indian swimmer Vedaant Madhavan added another feather in his decorated hat as he earned a gold in the men’s 800m freestyle at the Danish Open in Copenhagen. He had won a silver medal on Friday.
The 16-year-old has broken his personal best time by a whopping 11:48 to stop the clock at 8:17.28, edging past local swimmer Alexander L Bjorn by 0.10 to stand atop the podium on Sunday night.
It should be noted that in swimming, USA’s Robert Finke had won the gold at the Tokyo Olympics in the event last year with a timing of 7:41.87, while the world record for the event stands at 7:32.12. Though Vedaant, son of Indian actor R Madhavan, has a long way to go he has shown immense improvement. He has bettered his personal best times in all three events he has participated in in the ongoing meet.
Vedaant had won the silver medal in the 1500m freestyle event on Friday before bettering his 200m freestyle time to finish 12th overall in the event.
R Madhavan has reacted after his son Vedaant Madhavan won the gold medal at the Danish Open swimming event, days after he won a silver at the same meet. Sharing the video, R Madhavan captioned the post, "Gold….(dancing and gold medal emojis). With all your blessings and God‘s greatest the winning street continues (red heart and folded hands emojis). Today it’s a Gold IN 800m for @vedaantmadhavan. Overwhelmed and humbled. Thank you Coach @bacpradeep sir @swimmingfederation.in @ansadxb and the entire team."
