New Delhi, Nov 8: Indian pacer Mohammad Shami slammed former Pakistan cricketer Hasan Raza for his accusation against the Men in Blue that they are using altered cricket balls in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023.
Earlier, in a Pakistani television show, Raza had alleged that the International Cricket Council (ICC) and BCCI are helping India to seam and swing by providing a different kind of ball in the mega event.
“Sharm karo yaar game per focus karo na ki faltu bakwas par kabi to dusre ki success ko enjoy kia karo chii yar icc World Cup hai apk local tournament, nahi hai or Ap player hi the na. Wasim Bhai ne samjhaya hai explain kia tha phir bhir. Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Apne player apne Wasim Akram par yakin nahin apko apna tariff karne main lage hai janab apto just like a wow,” Shami wrote on Instagram.
After Hasan Raza's allegations went viral, former Pakistan speedster Wasim Akram had slammed him for his baseless allegation without taking his name. As per legendry Akram, who finished with more than 500 ODI wickets, such Pakistanis bring bad name to the whole country.
"I want to have the same things these guys are having. Sounds like fun. Because their mind is not there. They get slammed by the world for such statements and take us down as well with them," said Akram during an interview.
"It is a very simple thing. Umpire asks the bowling team to pick the balls with which they would want to bowl. The bowlers choose from the box of 12 brand new balls. All the match officials closely watch the whole thing. The bowlers pick two balls. The umpires keep them in their pant pockets. The remaining eight balls (remember that two new balls are used these days from two ends) to the other team. They do the same exercise," he explained.
Notably, Raza’s controversial statement had shocked the fans and former cricketers across the globe. Former India player Aakash Chopra even went to the extent of saying the comment as ‘comedy’.
What had Hasan Raza said?
His first claim was that ICC and BCCI are rigging the matches in favor of the Indian team by providing them with different balls than other teams. This came after India routed Sri Lanka by 302 runs in Mumbai, bowling them out for 55 runs while defending 357 runs. Mohammed Shami took 5/18 in that match.
The second allegation came after India defeated South Africa by 243 runs in Kolkata and Hasan Raza claimed that BCCI is rigging the DRS in favor of India. This was after a contentious LBW decision of Heinrich Klaasen.
