In a huge controversy, Indian men’s cricket team chief selector Chetan Sharma has made several shocking revelations in a sting video that is going viral on the internet. The former Indian pacer, who was removed from his role following India’s poor show in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup last year, was reappointed for the top job once again in January this year.

Chetan Sharma sting operation
In a sting operation conducted by Zee Media, Chetan can be heard making shocking revelations about the Indian cricket team and its players.

'Virat Kohli considered himself bigger than the game'

The 57-year-old can was speaking about Virat Kohli’s stint as Indian captain. Notably, Virat was removed from the ODI captaincy in December 2021 after he decided to give up the T20I leadership, and Rohit was appointed for the top job. "We were not favouring Rohit as a captain; we were just against Virat Kohli. BCCI took advantage of Virat’s poor form and removed him from the captaincy. They should not treat the country’s number-one batter like this. Shameful," Chetan Sharma said in an explosive sting operation conducted by Zee Media.

According to Sharma, Virat had started considering himself above the sport, which didn’t go down well with the board. "He was clearly told by the BCCI and selection committee to rethink his decision to quit the T20I captaincy. He was addressing the media ahead of the South Africa tour. He unnecessarily brought up the issue of what transpired in the selection committee. He wanted to take head on with then BCCI president," Chetan Sharma said.

Indian players taking injections

The former India pacer revealed that India's players take injections to expedite their match fitness when they are coming back from injuries. "The players are not fit but they take injections to play. They are ready to play even at 80 per cent fitness. They take injections and start playing," Sharma said in the sting operation video on Zee News channel.

"Even if they are around 85 percent fit, they will say 'Sir let us play' but they are not cleared by the medical team that is where the problem lies. The players always want to play, they never refuse to play. Bumrah could not even bend so what can he do? 1-2 such major injuries happen. Otherwise even at 80 percent (fitness) they are so naughty that they quietly sneak into a corner and take the injection and say 'Sir we are fit'."

When asked if the injections are pain killers? Sharma replied: "It is an injection, not pain killer. We don't even know that they have taken the injection. For pain killer, they need a prescription, it can also come under doping.

Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma-Sourav Ganguly rift:

Following Kohli's announcement of stepping down as the T20I skipper, Ganguly claimed that he had asked to reconsider his decision, albeit the player himself denied it in a press conference. Addressing the issue, Sharma stated that Ganguly did ask Kohli to think about his decision, and that the latter was trying to 'defame' the then president. Although, the selection committee chairman further mentioned that the conference was attended by nine members, and Kohli might not have heard Ganguly.

"This is a huge thing. There is a clash of two egos. There's one (Virat Kohli) who thinks that Ganguly has removed him from captaincy, so I will take my revenge. Virat gave statements in the media trying to defame Ganguly, but it backfired," he mentioned.

Moreover, Sharma further mentioned that whilst Ganguly did not ‘favour’ the current skipper, Rohit Sharma very evidently, he might have had a ‘dislike’ towards Kohli. Further clarifying the dispute, Sharma was heard saying “It was a battle of egos. Sourav Ganguly was also the captain of India. He was regarded as the most trustworthy captain and he is still remembered as the most successful captain. Virat naturally thinks that he is the most successful captain. So, it was one person's word over another, that naturally created some friction between the two.”
