After Bairstow's debatable dismissal, Twitter says then why to rant over Mankad?

Currently, the cricket world has been debating about the controversial run-out or "stumped" according to cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle of England batsman Jonny Bairstow.

On the final day of the second Test in the 52nd over at Lord's, Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey practically displayed 'smart work' as he knocked the bails off the stump as English batsman Jonny Bairstow was out of his crease with a direct throw.

Bairstow dismissal
Notably, Bairstow believed that the ball was "dead" after he had ducked a shortish delivery from Cameron Green. So, he had walked out of the crease towards his partner Stokes. Carey, having watched Bairstow make it a habit of walking outside the crease early, used the chance to run the batter out. He immediately under armed the ball to dislodge the bails to pull off the rarest of rare dismissals. Bairstow was left completely befuddled while English crowd fumed and booed at the Aussie team throughout.

According to law 20.1.2 of the MCC's Laws of Cricket, "the ball shall be considered to be dead when it is clear to the bowler's end umpire that the fielding side and both batters at the wicket have ceased to regard it as in play." So, in this case, the fielding side clearly considered the ball to still be in play and hence it wasn't a dead ball.

This left England fuming! From the England fans to coaches to the captain, they considered his dismissal against the "spirit of cricket".

However, Twitter is having another debate! Netizens are questioning why are the people who are lauding Carey today for the presence of mind were blasting Indian bowler R Ashwin for running out non strikers for leaving the crease. In short words, Mankading!

Speaking on the same, R Ashwin, who has mostly been at the center of 'spirit of the game' debates, praising Carey for his awareness.

"We must get one fact loud and clear. The keeper would never have a dip at the stumps from that far out in a test match unless he or his team have noticed a pattern of the batter leaving his crease after leaving a ball like Bairstow did. We must applaud the game smarts of the individual rather than skewing it towards unfair play or spirit of the game," he tweeted.

It is pertinent to mention that India was heavily criticized for Mankad in the past saying that it was against the spirit of the game.

Why such double standards, and hypocrisy towards India?
