India is a cricket-crazy nation with several cricket stadiums spread across the length and breadth of the country. The nation is all set to get another stadium added to its long list as Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for the state-of-the-art international cricket stadium in the Ganjari Area of Varanasi on September 23. The cost of the stadium is estimated to be around Rs 450 crore which will be full of modern amenities with a seating capacity of around 30,000.
In one-of-its-kind, the Varanasi stadium under construction has a distinct design which is based on Bhagwan Shiva. Here are some of the features-
1. The theme of stadium will be Bhagwan Shiva
2. The Stadium dome will be shaped like Trishul
3. Floodlights will be shaped like Damru
4. Entrance gate design like Belpatra
5. Seating arrangements that emulate the steps of the Ganga Ghat
The foundation stone laying ceremony is expected to be a big event jointly organised by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA). The event is expected to be attended by several star cricketers.
The stadium has been designed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) and drawings of the project has been finalised. In the next steps, UPCA (Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association) will approve the project and attain no-objection certificates from various departments such as forest and ground water.
Once completed, the international cricket stadium with a capacity of 30000 spectators will be ready to host international cricket matches. The development of roads and other facilities in the surrounding areas of the stadium will also get underway soon.
The stadium will further inspire the youth of Uttar Pradesh to join the league of India cricketers hailing from the state such as Suresh Raina, Kuldeep Yadav, Piyush Chawla, Mohammad Kaif, and Praveen Kumar.
